Belkin F2E9142-WHT Pro Series ADC to DVI Apple Monitor Adapter
From Belkin Components

Apple Monitor Adapter (ADC) for Apple Computers, otherwise known as Apple Display Connector (ADC) to Digital Video Input (DVI) Adapter, is made specifically for the new Power Macintosh G4 and the Power Macintosh G4 Cube user who wishes to continue to use their former Apple Cinema Display monitor, Apple Studio Display monitor or any other third party monitor featuring a DVI Flat Panel Display. The new Power Macintosh G4 and G4 Cube both include a graphics card that no longer offers the DVI connector that the older Power Macintosh G4 units provided. Instead, they offer only the new Apple Display Connector. And, as a result, the older style monitors that use the graphics card in the previous versions of the Power Macintosh G4 computer, which included the DVI connector, can no longer connect to the new versions of the Mac G4 and G4 Cube.

Works perfectly No great mystery here. You have an ADC port on your Mac, and you have a DVI input monitor, then this is what you need. In my case, a PowerMac G5 with ATI Radeon 9600 (oem) video card and an LCD monitor with DVI input. I plugged this adapter into my PowerMac's ADC port and into a DVI monitor cable (that came with my monitor, hoooked it to my LCD monitor, and *poof* instant connection. No fuss, no muss. (Note: I already had another DVI monitor plugged into the DVI connection of my ATI video card, which is why I needed this adapter for a second monitor.) Works as described I just bought two 22 Inch widescreen displays for my Dual G5 Mac tower. The video card it came with was a dual head (one DVI and one Apple Display Connector (ADC). This cable allowed me to connected the proprietary Apple port to a standard DVI port and get video out of the ADC to the display. Beautiful results. Works Great with a Viewsonic VA2226W Flatscreen Display This Adapter worked perfectly for me. I used it on a Power Mac G5 Desktop, Dual 2 GHz G5, model #M9032LL/A with ATI Radeon 9600 ProGraphics. I had a Viewsonic VGA monitor already connected to the DVI port through a DVI to VGA adapter. I wanted to add a second display, a Viewsonic LCD display (VA2226w) I used the converter on the computers ADC port to connect a DVI -D dual link digital cable to the monitors DVI input and it worked, no problems.

Almost junk I give it 2 stars because, when it works it works great. I have had 2 and both have the same problems. On the first one, the keyboard on one side died and would restart after totally disconnecting the cables. Within a few days, it would do it again. The second one does the same but waits weeks before dropping the keyboard. I tried returning them but got nowhere. I do not recommend this product. Update Oct 8, 2006: The sound is now having major problems. One channel is dead on one cable and real weak on the other. I *really* don't recommend this product. Good but losses keyboard connection occasionally I have had this unit for about 1 year now using it between my iMac G4 and a Dell Optiplex. Everything works fine except about once a week the keyboard and or mouse will stop responding. I have tried multiple mice, keyboards, and I have had a new PC and it still acts up. The IOgear website says that it is because it is not getting enough power from the USB connection. I just learn to live with it but I am a tolerant person. I have their PS2 version and have never had an issue with it. Great for use with Apple Powerbook I recently bought a 12" Powerbook G4. The small size is great for portability, but sometimes the ergonomics of it (the small screen, especially) are a little tiring. That's where this KVM switch works so well. I bought it intending to use it only to toggle my monitor (an older 15" Envision CRT) between my Windows desktop and the Powerbook, so that I could occasionally bring the Powerbook into the office and easily plug in to the bigger display. This use alone is worth the price of admission - suddenly the desktop becomes huge, since the Powerbook allows you to use one display as an extension of the other. Playing with the resolution settings allows you to magnify a little bit on the bigger display, too - makes text easier to read. Then I hooked up the USB cable to the Powerbook, too, and was suddenly and unexpectedly pleased by the comfort of using my old mouse and bigger keyboard (with numeric keypad and all of the other miscellaneous extra keys). I'm very satisfied - just by plugging or unplugging three bundled cables, I can either curl up on the couch with a tiny laptop, or quickly set it up in a more ergonomically proper manner. Setup was extremely simple - had one false start with the switch right out of the box, but then I actually read the instructions (four very short steps) and was off and running. In short: if you've got a laptop that supports the use of two screens, this product will turn it into a great desktop computer in a matter of seconds.

From Tritton

The SEE2 UV150 is the fastest, easiest way to add a second display to your PC and enhance your productivity by up to 44%.
Brand: Tritton Model: TRI-UV150 Dimensions: .60 pounds

Just what I needed. Excellent. I have a laptop with a built-in video card that is not capable of providing the resolution needed to support my external 1680x1050 monitor. Even after installing the manufacturer's driver on the laptop, the display was not clear enough to use. I recently purchased this Tritton External VGA Video Card. After a very few minutes of installation and setup, I am now up and running. The resolution is crystal clear and everything works perfectly. I must warn that I am not a video game player, so I cannot say how the video adapter will work for intense graphical applications, but for my purposes it is great.

ViBook USB to DVI 1600x1200 includes VTMultiDisplay Utility ($49 Value)
From Village Tronic

ViBook is an innovative graphics USBDVI cable; the simplest way to add additional displays to any computer system, desktop or laptop. It does not matter if you use a Mac or a PC, or both; or if you run Win 2000, XP or Vista on your PC, ViBook is still your multiple display solution. Whenever you have USB ports, you can drive one or more extra screens. Several monitors can be connected using more ViBooks, even through a hub. ViBook plugs directly into your display DVI port or nicely sits in its cradle on the back of the display, contributing to a clutter free working desk. ViBook also has very low power consumption, well below USB specifications, making it a very compatible and reliable product. Combining this with an unique heat dissipating design allows to extend the standard warranty to 3 full years of reliable operation.

I love it It's perfect for my needs. I've got a 15" Macbook which I've used to replace a desktop. The desktop formerly had 2 monitors, a 24" dell, and a 20" dell. I was a little sad, having my perfectly good 20" monitor going to waste with my macbook. I read some reviews of the vibook, ordered it from their website, and waited patiently, there were no problems shipping it to Canada. It works perfectly for what I use it for. I'm a programmer, and I've hooked my 20" monitor up the vibook, rotated that screen vertically, and dedicate it to web browsing. My 24" monitor running off displayport I use as my main monitor, and I use the macbook built in display for chat/mail. It works 'almost' flawlessly, but closely enough that I'm very happy. Occasionally my vibook-enabled monitor flickers on/off (very rare, and only lasts a second- may have something to do with how busy my usb ports or cpu are. it doesn't happen enough to affect my productivity whatsoever). Watching youtube videos, etc. are not a problem on the vibook monitor. Even regular definition video seems to be okay, tho I probably wouldn't want to watch full length movies on it. It's not a good choice to use the vibook-enabled monitor to run 3d apps or hd video as it will kill your cpu. But overall, this is a perfect solution for me. Best video product ever I am driving three 22" 1680 x 1050 Samsung monitors with three viBooks with my ThinkPad X200 laptop. To have a desktop of four screens (including the 1280 x 800 on the laptop itself) is simply wonderful. On one screen I'll have stock prices (via QCharts); on another Outlook's inbox, and on the third a browser or two. That still leaves the main laptop's screen for replying to emails and editing photos with Photoshop. You cannot believe how much time having four screens up at once saves. Best yet, the viBook software is bulletproof. It's never given an ounce of trouble. And when I travel and only have one screen (the laptop's own), it disappears majestically (i.e. seamlessly) into the background. if you want your PC or laptop to drive multiple screens, this is the product. Trust me. Don't trust me? Email me: Harry at [...] Easy to install, easy to use, works great I purchased two of these to replace my VTBook Dual Head PCMCIA card that I was using with my previous laptop computer. My new computer (ThinkPad T400) does not have a PCMCIA card slot compatible with the VTBook card. I then discovered that VillageTronic came out with this ViBook product that allow me to drive an external monitor out of a USB port. That works out great for me since, with the laptop and its docking station, I have a lot of USB ports. And where the VTBook card and cables used to come out the front left side of the old laptop, this USB solution is so much better because it all comes out the back and is out of the way, and there is no heat being generated through the card. I know that there are other similar units out there that are a little less costly, but I chose this unit because I had good experience with the VTBook from the same company and already knew the interface. My setup is as follows. I have three external monitors in addition to the laptop monitor. I built a stand to raise the three monitors about 6 inches above my (large) desk, behind the laptop. The platform is designed to hide all the powerstrips and cables and various power supplies. The middle monitor is widescreen (running 1680x1050)as is the laptop monitor (running 1280x800), and I drive it out of the DVI port on the laptop. The left and right monitors are only VGA and not widescreen (running 1280x1024), and those I am driving through the ViBooks out of two USB ports on the docking station, so I am using the DVI-VGA adapter provided. I use each monitor separately (as opposed to spreading a window across multiple monitors). If any reader is just now considering moving to a multimonitor setup, let me tell you it makes a huge difference in productivity and is very easy to achieve. I could never go back to one monitor.
